Tulsa Travel FAQs

Tulsa has one of the most fascinating attractions in the United States. In downtown Tulsa, there’s a small concrete circle where visitors can experience a natural wonder. When standing inside the circle, the sound is amplified, and any noise you make is echoed back louder.

The Tulsa underground tunnels connect parking garages, hotels, and office buildings and were first built as safe passageways for the city’s oil barons in the 1920s. While these tunnels are open to the public, they can only be explored Monday through Friday and are closed during the weekend. A few local companies offer private tours of the tunnels for those curious about their interesting history.

Tulsa gained the title of “Oil Capital of the World” in the 1920s when a massive oil deposit was found in Red Fork, a nearby community. The discovery led to a population boom in Tulsa and helped the city become what it is today.

Tulsa has surprisingly less traffic congestion compared to other cities of its size, making it easier to travel through Tulsa and visit the city’s must-see attractions. However, we always recommend using GPS for navigation if you’re unfamiliar with the city.

We recommend taking a day trip to Turner Falls Park. This unforgettable, nature-filled park is home to the tallest waterfall in Oklahoma, hidden caves, swimming holes, hiking and climbing spots, and more! It’s around a 181-mile trip from Tulsa, so you can generally make it there in just under three hours with your Avis car rental.
