You can request car seats for both infants and toddlers when reserving a rental car from Avis. The specific models and types of car seats may vary by location, but they will meet all recommended safety standards. Renting car seats with a rental car does come with an additional fee, which will be added to your online estimate or explained to you in detail when you pick up your vehicle. |
Child Safety Seat Rental Details
Avis offers multiple types of car seats at most U.S. rental locations for a daily rental rate. Your rental car seat will need to be returned to the same location it was rented from, and in the same condition, or there will be a $50 additional fee.
Car Seat Types
You can rent a car with a car seat that will fit an infant or a toddler, as well as booster seats for older children. For infants, we offer both rear-facing and convertible-style car seats. For toddlers, we have forward-facing car seats to ensure maximum safety for your child.
Safety is our number one priority at Avis. We want the right restraint and child seat for your child. We recommend the following guidelines when selecting infant and child seats for rental:
- Up to 1 year old (and up to 20-22 pounds)
- Ages 1-3 (and 20 to 40 pounds)
- Ages 4-7 (or until 4'9" tall)
- Age 8-12 (or at least over 4'9")
- Big Kids Need Boosters
Rear-facing Infant-only car seat, Convertible or 3-in-1 seat

The U.S. Government recommends that from 40 to about 80 pounds and about 4'9" tall, children should always be seated in a belt-positioning booster. A booster seat lifts children so adult lap/shoulder seat belts are "positioned" correctly and safely. Plus, booster seats offer children better visibility and comfort.
How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Car Seat?
The Avis cost to rent car seats with car rentals is usually $14 per day, up to a maximum of $84 per rental. However, the price may vary at some rental locations.
When you book your reservation online, you will be able to designate which type of car seat you would like and for how long. Then you should receive a cost estimate with your rental total. The total cost will also be confirmed when you pick up your vehicle and will be included in the rental agreement. Keep in mind that available car seat types vary by location.

On page 3 of your rental form, you’ll see a section labeled “Rental Options.” You can find this section under the “Equipment” tab. Avis is the first car rental company to adopt the LATCH system as its standard for child safety seat installation. LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren, and it is an initiative designed to reduce risks from improperly installed car seats.
LATCH-ready cars have anchors and tethers in the back seat that attach to the car seat and hold it firmly in place. LATCH systems are just as safe as seat belts but much easier to use.
Avis stocks a set of standard, Evenflo® child safety and booster seats that are compatible with our LATCH-ready vehicles. You can use the anchors and tethers in your rental car to install your rented child safety seat. (Source)
