At Avis, we endeavor to make everyone's rental experience as easy, safe, and stress-free as possible. That's why as a feature of our Avis Cares® Program, we provide a full range of products and services for our drivers and passengers with disabilities—at no extra cost.
Our visually impaired passengers can travel worry-free. All you need to do is make an advance reservation in your name, arrive with a licensed driver who is at least 25 years old, complete the Avis additional driver form at the time of rental, and you're on your way! With Avis, you can be sure we'll meet your needs before you even get on the road.
A full range of services:
Transfer Board: Enables easy transfer from a wheelchair into and out of the vehicle
Panoramic Mirror: Provides a much larger field of view for any driver
Swivel Seat: Allows the driver or passenger to turn his or her body in the vehicle seat with minimal effort. The swivel seat can easily be removed from underneath the person for transport
Hand Controls: Enables disabled drivers to accelerate and brake using a hand-controlled device; drivers without disabilities can drive the vehicle without interference from the hand controls
Spinner Knob: Enables the driver to turn the steering wheel with a full turning radius using only one hand

Yes, if customers need to use a shuttle service to reach the Avis rental counter, that shuttle is always wheelchair accessible and fully ADA-compliant. Shuttles are typically equipped with ramps or lifts and have designated wheelchair spaces to ensure that travel is simple for all Avis customers.
Yes, Avis has rental cars with hand controls available to better serve our customers. Hand control devices enable acceleration and breaking via the device, allowing people with disabilities to drive our rental cars without interference. Like all of our disability products and services, hand controls are available at no additional charge.
Yes, you may use your handicap placard in a rental car so long as you are the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. Disability placards are registered to you, not your car, so you can use them in any vehicle you’re in, including rentals. Your placard must be valid and non-expired.
Yes, Avis has handicap van rental options. Avis locations can provide accessories such as transfer boards, swivel seats, transfer boards, hand controls, and spinner knobs. However, we do not rent vans with wheelchair lifts or other similar features.
